travel/volunteer in spain
I feel like I’m just waking up from a week-long nap, after down the rabbit hole of stress. But I’m back and ready to get crackin’ on some fun travel chit chat. I’ve got some kick-ass plans in the works that I can’t wait to tell you about, but until they’re ironed out, I’m staying mum.
I’ll be honest and admit that over the last week or so, I’ve been so incredible overwhelmed that as long as a comment didn’t look like spam, I’ve pressed “publish” without so much as reading it. But my friend Jamie brought to my attention that there’s been some talk in the comments about VaughanTown and I wanted to put it out here on the main page because, seriously, what an amazing idea. If I were a college student, or, unemployed like I was last summer, I would be all over this. The general idea is, you fly to Madrid (that part you pay for) and then you go stay (free o’ charge, 3 squares included) in a 4-star country hotel and chit-chat with Spanish-speaking business people.
Tell me what part about that sounds like work?
If you’ve participated in this program, I would LOVE to hear about your personal experience.

I was the one who put the first post up and while I ultimately wasn’t able to attend I did apply and was accepted to the program. Once you’ve been accepted you have access to a secure site where participants both past and future can exchange information on their message board.
It was clear to me from everyone I talked to that this program is the real deal and everyone who’s done it raved about it. Participants come from all over the world. The people in my group were from the U.S., U.K. and Australia.
I still hope to be able to do it one of these days and would encourage anyone who’s interested to apply. They really do pay for everything except for airfare as I learned when they sent me my orientation package.
http://www.jobsabroad.com also has some great opportunities.
On bad work days, I like to search the site and imagine that it would be plausible to pick up my life and move somewhere new and wonderful.
I have not personally done this, but when I lived in Spain, my Aunt used this to come visit me. She payed to get to Madrid and then spent a week speaking English with Businessmen and politicians looking to imporve thier language. She said it was a great hotel and they had activities, dinners ect. She really enjoyed it. She then came to visit me for a week in Madrid and got a two week vacation for the price of one. I would love to do this.
