my travel resolution for 2008
I never really make New Year’s resolutions that have anything to do with health or finances or important grown up stuff. But I do make a list of places I want to see in the New Year. After nailing down Italy, Barcelona and Scotland this year, Prague is getting bumped to 2008. And as for a new location? I think I’m going to keep things a little closer to home.
The Grand Canyon.
It’s so close, and yet I’ve never seen it. So, one day soon, I’m going to pack up my car, and take a road trip to see one of the world’s wonderments. And after that, maybe add a new exotic locale to the list. Thailand? Brazil? Oregon? Hey, I’ll be on a desk job by then, so Oregon will probably seem plenty exotic.
What’s your 2008 travel resolution?

Bahamas in Jan - next week to be exact!! Jamacia in April…those are my two trips for ‘08
2009 - Barcelona hopefully…
I plan to visit my friend in Germany for a few weeks. I will probably offshoot to Italy or Scotland for a few days as well.
I also need to see the Grand Canyon pretty badly. I live next door to Arizona. No excuse.
I’m going to the Grand Canyon in ‘08 too! It just seems silly to wait any longer, since it’s on my top 10 places to go is and probably the easiest/cheapest to get to. My other big goal of going to Easter Island to see the total solar eclipse in 2010 is going to take a bit more planning and saving…good thing I have a couple years still.
I loved reading about your travels this year! Here’s to 2008!
we went to the grand canyon last year and it was great, though we regretted not having time/water carrying capacity to hike down - definitely purchase a camelback before going. we also went to zion national park and bryce canyon, which i highly recommend, and those are a lot more accessible for hiking.
as for next year, we’re hoping to make it to mongolia!
I too love to read your blog and look forward to it every week. I am also staying close to home by going to Salem, MA during Halloween for my best friends Bachelorette party. Then her wedding is a Caribbean cruise in December. However, I have been feeling Scotland’s strong call again so who knows?
cambodia in march and italy in may!
Since 2006, I’ve been thinking about going to Scotland in 2008, but I think grad school will be interfering with my plans. I would like to go to California sometime this year, as I’m an East Coast girl who’s only been there once!
We’re planning an Asia trip…most likely Japan. If you visit Thailand, you must take a trip out to the islands. Phuket was awesome.
After watching The Darjeeling Limited and a Michael Palin travelogue and aching to go somewhere, I decided the only thing holding me back from taking off a few months to travel was me. So….I’m planning on doing the Silk Road through China, possibly through Pakistan (depending on situation), across Northern India, up through Nepal and then back into China by way of Tibet.
Sigh. It’s going to happen. This year!
The Grand Canyon is so awesome!! You will love it.
Just got back from Guatemala and Honduras, which is why I’m just now catching up on your blog! I am going to Spain in May and Turkey in early fall.
I have friends in Zambia & China this year so I really want to see them … but I have to say, a road trip through the southwest has been on my brain for a long time! It’s easy to forget we have such amazing landscapes to see here at home when international travel is so easy.
