hostel (hotel) review: hotel arno

The place couldn’t have been easier to find. My bed was enormous, comfy, and equipped with two (two! unheard of!) huge pillows. With free wi-fi and an uber-friendly host (who will kindly direct you to the cinema on English movie night) it should have been a steal. But my god, it was loud.

My window faced the street where a trolley ran by once every twenty minutes or so, screeching and scraping. Even with ear plugs, I was sort of miserable; I ended up using that second pillow to bury my head. And when I woke up two nights in a row to other hostel guests screaming in the hallway - at 4AM - I thought perhaps I’d made a mistake.

But. It was cheap, it was clean and very conveniently located. It’s a toss up.

  1. Your hostel reviews are incredibly helpful! I’m planning a trip to Europe in fall of 2008, and it’s great to read your thoughts on accommodations — I think you’re probably a much more reliable source of opinions than some random TripAdvisor reviewer!

  2. Whereas, I wasn’t planning a trip to Europe, but after this blog I am.

ISE Cards should definitely consider this a good sponsorship opportunity.

  3. Hey, I’ve been there! I stayed at the Hotel Arno in May because I couldn’t find a hostel in Milan. I’m surprised they’re not busier, what with there being no backpacking hostel and all.

I remember lots of mirrors and odd brass furnishings.

  4. Hi, I ran across this blog by accident and enjoyed reading your experiences! I hope one day to travel to Ireland and Italy mainly but would also love to make it to places like Romania as well. That’d be nifty. So it’s fun reading others traveling experiences.
I may just start up a savings accout specifically for traveling abroad for a month at least. Also for the pesky bills that come by the month for that month I don’t work. Bleh.
    Sounds so exciting!

  5. Fish - your photos are breath taking. thanks for sharing.

  6. Rural Italy is turning more and more fashionable with tourists. Tuscany is particularly graceful with hilly and mountainous territory in much of the region. There are graceful valleys too and attractive Tuscan farm houses.

  7. There is more art and architecture discover in Italy than somebody could possibly go through in a lifetime.
