hey, you!
Okay, one more quick item of business before we get back to Italy - I want to do a series of interviews. With you guys. I want to ask you about your travels and share your stories. Want to volunteer? Drop your name and email in the comment box!
My thought is that once a week, I’ll feature someone’s interview and maybe a photo or two. The world is a big place, and it looks different through everyone else’s eyes. I can’t wait to see it through yours.

Eh, sure why not. Of course, I’ve only toured our own humble country and Calgary Canada…. but who knows, you might be able to cull something interesting out of that.
If you’re interested, I’d love to share my stories about traveling through Korea for 10 days.
Not including the continental USA, I have visited Australia (went by myself and had a blast), Canada, Hawaii, France (2x), Spain (2x), Italy, Greece, and Egypt this year.
Er, um, sure! I’ve done a backpacking trip in Europe and had some adventures road trippin’ through the states (and almost been denied entry into the States cause I told the border guard that I was gonig to visit friends I’d met through my blog!)

I’m going to St. Martin, St. Barts & Anguila for a week in February - living on a sailboat. I did this a few years ago through Bahamas, Turks&Caicos, Puerto Rico & BVIs. When I get back I’d be happy to relate what it’s like travelling by wind-power.
I’ve spent three summers living in Greece and traveling throughout Europe; I’m from North Carolina/Indiana and also travel on the East Coast of the US a lot.
Sure! Through work, I’ve been to Africa, Ireland, Paris, Greek Islands and Dubrovnik, Croatia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Austrailia, New Zealand, Lisbon and some of the Carribean. I love to talk about travel, so hit me up! And I’m a native Texan, too.
Sure. I am planning a month long trip and like your insight. I lived in Ireland for a semester and traveled to Costa Rica and France on separate trips.
If you’re looking for international travel, mine’s outdated, but I did recently drive from LA to Boston in a 2-door Civic with one other person, all his luggage (he was moving!) and a very tight budget…
I’ve done some traveling through Russia and Uzbekistan, and I’m getting ready to head off to Turkmenistan for a few months. I love talking to people about places they didn’t even think were real countries!
Ask away!!
I have traveled to Japan (Tokyo, Kamakura, Kyoto, Hakone) Thailand (Bangkok, KoLanta), Amsterdam, Brussles, Paris, Toronto and various places in the U.S. - California, Portland, Chicago, D.C.

I’d be willing to answer some questions - I’ve lived in France and Morocco, and am moving back to France in a few months. I’ve traveled most of Western Europe, some Central Europe, the Caribbean, most of the US, Canada, Mexico…
I’m up for it - I lived in Brazil for a year & have travelled to - France, Portugal, Spain, US, crossed Canada by train and have visited PEI, Egypt, Ireland (but only Dublin), South Africa. Um … there’s probably more but I think that’s quite enough for one list!
Heck yeah! I’ve been all over the U.S., Manzanillo (Mexico), and Ghana.
I’ll do it. I just did northern Europe and Oktoberfest in Munich. A great time. Thanks love you columns
Sure
And for reference I spent 3 weeks abroad in Barcelona, a semester in Verona, Italy (and then various cities in Italy + Vienna, Lisbon, Prague, Paris, London). Closer to home I’ve made it to Puerto Vallarta, MX and British Columbia, Canada.

How many people do you know who have lost their passport in a foreign country?…You’ll never guess where I found it!
I’ve been all over the US and Canada, Italy, Spain, France, England, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Aruba….
Traveled a lot through Canada, I’ve lived in three major cities here. I’ve also seen a lot of the Caribbean, and I just checked out Greece and Turkey, which was amazing. If you have a chance, see Istanbul, I can’t wait to get back there.
Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, England, Ireland, China, I think that is it…
For me, 17 countries in Europe over the course of three summers. India, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma, 1 hour in Laos, Australia, um…and others. I journal so am happy to share with you! And I have ambitions to be a freelance travel writer so you can tell me if I have what it takes!
Love traveling and a big fan of your blog- I took time off work and spent 6 amazing mos traveling in Latin America earlier this year- I was a volunteer leading volcano hikes in Nicaragua, a student studying spanish in Ecuador, and a tourist in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Honduras, and Costa Rica (Panama doesn’t count bc I was only there for 36 hours and salsa dancing for the majority of that time). Happy to share info and would definitely recommend Central and South America as fantastic travel destinations!

andorra, belgium, colombia, denmark, france, germany, honduras, israel, italy, netherlands, new zealand, spain, and sweden. plus living in england and australia.
of course, i did a lot of this when i was 11, so i don’t know how much advice i could give on good hostels.
Ok I’ll bite: The first place I ever went was East Timor shortly after it has been turned to rubble by departing Indonesian soldiers in 1999- I lived in a barely standing “house” for a couple of months doing volunteer work.
Then I lived in a little village in rural Nepal for a year, working for an NGO (aid organisation).
Now I live in Shanghai, China, where I have been living and working for the last two and a half years.
Oh and I am Australian, so have travelled a lot there, as well as travelling a bit in Quebec, France, India and Thailand.
Is any of that of interest to you?
Oh boy! Cartagena, Colombia and Havana, Cuba…but only if you don’t mind lots of ooh and ahs.
Lived in Japan and Germany each for a year and have visited Phillipines, Thailand, Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Amsterdam, Prague, Balkans etc… Would love to talk about any of them.
Great idea - looking forward to hearing from the readers. I’ve been to 42 states (lived in 7), lived in Lyon, France for a semetser (and traveled the rest of France), my family’s from India so I’ve been all over there for extended periods of time, Mexico, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Italy, Germany, Greece, England, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong…
I’m in! Most of my friends are sick of the India tales….would be great to try them on a new crowd
I’ve been to Buenos Aires, Argentina for Tango. Its been quite a few years, but I think I could muster up some memories for ya….
I spent three weeks in The Netherlands (visiting my then boyfriend who lives there, best way to see a country is with a native), I’ve been to London, Hawaii five times and I think I’ve taken every cruise that leaves from port in Florida
And of course, I’ve traveled over a good deal of the US, although there are tons of places here at home I’d still like to see, I also dream of seeing Italy and Greece before, well, before I can’t anymore for some reason.
I would love to help! I spent 4 months in London while studying abroad…I also went to the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece!
I went to China this summer - does that make me eligible?
I went to China this summer - does that make me eligible? I had some fun experiences and some musings into the differences in money, especially.
I’d be interested. I’m in the south of France for a year now and am traveling around Europe some. As a reader, I really like the idea too!
Sounds like fun. I’ve been to Italy twice, Spain, Romania, Paris and several times around much of the Southwest.
I lived in Germany for 4 years if you are interested in the perspective of someone _living_ in Europe! Went all over Europe during that time. Have also been to Russia, Tunisia, and Colombia. Fun idea!
I was born in England, live in Jamaica and have been to loads of europe, malawi, india, ukraine (got lost and met men who introduced me to lots of types of vodka), cayman, bahamas, martinique, tunisia, israel… feel free to ask me any questions!
Would love to give you a hand, adore this blog as well as your main one!
If it helps, in the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to go to some great places - most of the major European cities, as well as some obscure ones. In addition, I’ve been to Vietnam, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore etc. And of course, the foray into Iceland and Scandinavia. Add in a few islands - Bora Bora, Moorea, and it’s been an exciting few years. I’m off to Rome next week, although I’ve been before I am looking forward to your suggestions!
Just got back from a month in Austria and Germany, and am taking every possible opportunity to talk about it. With my friends I figure I have about another 3 weeks before they get annoyed, but the internet has unlimited patience, right?
Peru is fabulous; you’d love it!
I’m willing to answer any and all questions — I travel as much as two weeks’ vacation and my salary allow.
I studied in France, Kenya and Belize during college. I moved back to France after I graduated; I lived in a 16th-century abbey and traveled as much as I could until I ran out of money six months later.
Even though I’ve joined the world of 401(k)s, I still take off every chance I get. I only have two continents left — and they have cruises to Antarctica now!
Hi Fish,
Love all the stories! My hubby and I bicycled accross Canada a few summers ago, if you want a slightly different take on traveling!
Sure, I have been in 12 countries in the last two years (and I am still somewhat sane).
I spent a little over a week in China and never made it to Beijing or Shanghai. And now I’m planning my own trip to Italy for the spring.
how fun! i spent a quarter in the Loire Valley in college & hit London, Paris, Vienna & Salzburg. Also have been to Hong Kong, Ensenada as a volunteer, and … of course
… Vancouver. Crossing my fingers that I’ll make it to Zambia this year. Maybe Beijing.
I’d love to do this. I spent some time studying in England, traveled a bit around parts of Europe, and have done work projects in the Philippines and Honduras.
What a great idea! I’d love to volunteer if you need another person. My resume: England (Bath, Oxford, London, Lake District), Dublin, Paris, Munich, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Florence and my beloved Spain (Barcelona, Granada, Madrid). And all over the US.
I’m in. I’ve been to Peru, Costa Rica, Panama, France, Italy, Sicily (I think it counts separately) Spain, London, Egypt, Canada, Mexico and various areas in the Caribbean (but it was on a cruise and I don’t think that really counts…)
I just (JUST) got back from celebrating my 30th birthday in Peru. A high school friend and I decided to hike the Inca Trail from Cuzco to Machu Picchu to comemmerate the occasion. Physically the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, but I have great pictures to show for it.
Want input from Asia? :o) I’m from the Philippines and presently living in China. I’ve traveled a lot around both countries, and quite a bit around the world - SEAsia, India, the US, Morocco, Germany, Austria…
(Been, BTW, a reader of thisfish for around two years now. Thanks for the fun blog! I would love to visit NY, but everyone in my family lives on the West Coast! I don’t think I will make it to NY anytime soon…)
According to Facebook I have seen 20% of this fair planet (visiting 48 states has helped with the rate of coverage). I would love to share–and to get some tips!
